Bruce Frantzis, Taoist Meditation

The most profound emotional and spiritual development is initiated with Taoist meditation.

Bruce is a Lineage Holder in the Water method of Taoist meditation passed down from the teachings of Lao Tse. To employ all of your effort and yet not use force—so that you avoid contravening the actual limits of the body, the mind and the spirit—is the gentle way of Lao Tse, one of Taoism’s greatest sages and author of the Tao Te Ching.

Course Details

In Taoism, the road to spirituality involves more than having health, calmness and a stable, peaceful mind. These are just the necessary prerequisites that are achieved through chi gung, Longevity Breathing, tai chi and other Taoist energy arts.

The Water tradition of Taoist meditation continues the work of releasing your inner conflicts. This process beings with the Outer Dissolving method Bruce teaches in Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body chi gung and progresses to the Inner Dissolving method, a key part of Lao Tse’s tradition, which helps you release conditioning, tension and blockages that bind and prevent you from reaching your full spiritual potential. As your practice deepens, the 16-part nei gungi system is brought into play to accelerate the evolutionary spiritual process and move toward meditative stillness.

Beginners will learn the basic method of Inner Dissolving including:

  • How to maintain correct body alignments while sitting
  • Staying consciously present in the body while focusing on awareness of inner non-physical emotional, mental and psychic qualities
  • How to put the mind into all the potential energies including the physical and etheric bodies, emotions, thoughts and psychic perception
  • Basic techniques to release negative emotions, inner attachments, expectations and shock.

Students with a solid foundation in Taoist meditation may focus on such topics as:

  • Using the techniques of the 16-part nei gung system to affect the different energy bodies, beginning with breathing and opening and closing, to see what naturally emerges
  • Exploring how to resolve karmic patterns or ruts to gain a greater ability to change
  • Resolving the dissonance between your inner world and the realities of living a life
  • Beginning the process of developing the full potential of the spirit by moving beyond yin and yang and engaging with emptiness, creativity, the unseen world and compassion.

Subject Overview

The most profound emotional and spiritual development is initiated with Taoist meditation. The techniques taught in this course come from the Water methodi of Taoist meditation, described by Lao Tse in the Tao Te Ching over 2,500 years ago.

According to this sophisticated meditation tradition, which has been transmitted for millennia from teacher to disciple in an unbroken lineage to the Taoist sage Liu Hung Chieh and from him to Bruce, spiritual pursuits start with improving the health of the physical body. The practitioner therefore seeks to become relaxed, fully alive and balanced before taking on the more difficult challenges of working with the unseen spirit world.

The Water tradition of Taoist meditation continues the work of releasing your inner conflicts. This process begins with the Outer Dissolving meditation process Bruce teaches in Energy Gates Qigongi and progresses to the Inner Dissolving meditation process, a key part of Lao Tse’s tradition, which helps you release conditioning, tension and blockages that bind and prevent you from reaching your full spiritual potential.

As your meditation practice deepens, the 16 neigongi (components of internal power) are brought into play to accelerate the evolutionary spiritual process and move toward meditative stillness.

Past Lucid Living events with Bruce Frantzis:

The Water Method of Taoist Meditation: Relaxing into Your Being
October 12 & 13, 2010

For two evenings in October Taoist Lineage Master Bruce Frantzis taught a Taoist Meditation workshop, peeling away the metaphors to explain the relevance of meditation to everyday life. Gradually we explored ways of locating, recognising and releasing energy blockages in the body that manifest in our emotions, creative and analytical thinking, psychic sensitivities, karma and at the level of our individual essence, which goes beyond personality. Taoist meditation has been applied for millennia to let go of that which binds – whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.

Bruce is a vibrant and inspirational talker and never misses to include fascinating stories of his life and training with Taoist Lineage Master, Liu Hung Chieh, in China.
